Engineered wood flooring is one of the most popular floor finishes in UK homes — and choosing the right acoustic underlay is critical to both the acoustic performance and the longevity of the floor.

What Engineered Wood Needs in an Underlay

Engineered wood requires an underlay that is: stable (will not compress and cause the floor to flex), compatible with the manufacturer's installation requirements, and provides genuine acoustic performance. Our 6mm recycled rubber underlay meets all three criteria — it is dimensionally stable under load, recommended by most engineered wood manufacturers, and achieves up to 74dB impact noise reduction.

UFH Compatibility

Many engineered wood floors are installed over underfloor heating. Our 6mm rubber underlay has low thermal resistance and is compatible with UFH systems — heat passes through effectively while acoustic performance is maintained.

Cork vs Rubber for Engineered Wood

Both work well. Our cork-rubber composite underlay provides a natural feel underfoot and excellent acoustic absorption. Our rubber underlay provides slightly higher impact noise reduction. For most applications, the rubber is the stronger performer.
