Acoustic Underlay for Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) — Expert Guide

LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) is the fastest-growing floor finish in UK homes — and choosing the right acoustic underlay for LVT is more complex than for laminate or engineered wood.

LVT-Specific Requirements

LVT requires an extremely flat, stable substrate — any imperfections telegraph through to the surface. The acoustic underlay must not compress unevenly under point loads (table legs, chair feet). Standard foam underlays are not suitable for LVT — they are too soft and will cause the LVT to flex and potentially delaminate at joints.

Best Acoustic Underlay for LVT

Our 6mm recycled rubber underlay is our top recommendation for LVT applications. It provides a stable, firm base that prevents LVT flex, while achieving up to 74dB impact noise reduction. For budget applications, our 3mm rubber also works well under LVT and provides 54dB.

Check Manufacturer Compatibility

Always check your LVT manufacturer's underlay compatibility requirements before installing. Most quality LVT brands specify a maximum compressibility for the underlay — our rubber products typically meet these requirements. Avoid soft foam underlays for LVT regardless of their acoustic claims.
